Galatea was a nereid, the daughter of the sea god Nereus. The sun and her marine origin made her flexible like a twig and beautiful to look at. She dove into the sea waves and danced to their rhythm.
The ugly cyclops Polyphemus fell in love with her beauty and began courting her. He sat on the shore of the sea and sang praises of her beauty. Galatea suffered greatly from his attention.
At that time, the cupid Acis appeared, having the appearance of a handsome young man with the first fuzz on his chin, and regularly came to the beautiful woman with silky skin and seductive lips. While Galatea used to wither, now she blossomed because her love was reciprocated.
One beautiful afternoon, when the breeze was refreshing and the sea was playing with the sun’s rays, the cyclops woke up in his cave a little earlier and went for a walk. Suddenly, his gaze fell on a couple dazzling him with their naked bodies on the edge of the olive grove. The giant could not bear the weight of the moment and a wild howl tore from his throat. Gasping for breath and with a terrible scream, he ran towards the fleeing couple. Acis and Galatea were running through the olive grove to the boat, and they managed to reach the opposite shore.
At that moment, the giant understood that he had no more power over Galatea. He tore off a piece of rock, smashed it, and hurled it at the couple emerging on the shore. He hit Acis with full force, and blood and life left his beautiful body.
Galatea could not bear to see him bleeding and turned him into springs, which to this day give brown water because they come from Acis’s blood. She immersed herself into the waves of the silver-foamed sea and still rushes through it today.
This woman of gentle manners and beautiful appearance would not be so beautiful if she did not know how to take care of herself and her looks. That is why we chose her as a symbol thanks to her beauty and body care, and our hotel bears her name – GALATEA.
